What is the girl effect?
The Girl Effect [2] is the potential of 600 million adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves and the world. It is an untapped force in the fight against poverty, driven by:- the Nike Foundation
- the NoVo Foundation
- the UN Foundation
- the Coalition for Adolescent Girls
- BRAC
- CARE
- Plan
- the Population Council
- ICRW
- the Center for Global Development...
- ...and many others.
Mission: Why Girls?
Because there is poverty, war, hunger, and AIDS, and because when adolescent girls in the developing world have a chance, they can be the most powerful force of change for themselves, their families, communities, countries, and even the planet.
But while those 600 million adolescent girls are the most likely agents of change, they are often invisible to their societies and the world.
